As a 19 year old, should I run into any trouble checking in a bottle of alcohol with my luggage?

This is not my carry-on. I’m talking about checking it in with my luggage.

I also don’t want to hear about what is legal and ethical. Only if I should be able to check it in and retrieve without a problem.

Thanks

Well the baggage handlers will probably steal it, but you won’t get arrested or anything. Alex

no u wont because depending on the size they have to remove it for secrurity reasons otherwise if it is a small bottle i dont think they will do anything about it although i cant say for sure BK201

It depends on the country. if you’re landing in the states where 21 is the legal age they might take it from you. if you’re in canada you should be fine though. i don’t know the drinking ages for other countries. Kenzie

I don’t think it should be a problem if it’s not carry on. I think you’re in the clear. “L”

Should be ok. TSA has been known to pinch items checked in luggage though. Good luck! spiritfiend

if your not 21, it is illegal to be in possession of alcohol at any time. at least in america. jay

It depends on where you’re going. If you’re headed to the states especially with customs and all (they randomly select certain bags to check) I really wouldn’t suggest it, because you’d run into quite a bit of trouble since the drinking age there is 21 and the airports have to be strict on everything. I’m sure it should be okay if you check it in and not on carry-on. Also, if they ask you about it, tell them it’s a gift you’re taking for the people you’re visiting. Or something clever like that. trippeldrie

I really don’t think you should do that just in case, buy your beer or whatever it is where ever you are going, just please don’t do this to yourself and get in shit for it when your only nineteen…k! Mackenzie

You had better check with the airline - alcohol can not (!!!) be placed aboard an aircraft due to the possibility of it at least popping the cork and more likely an outright explosion - I know this from working for several delivery companies not 2 B fooled

This is the information given on the TSA website regarding alcohol in checked baggage:

Carrying Alcohol In Your Checked Baggage

Please note, you can’t take alcoholic beverages with more than 70% alcohol content (140 proof), including 95% grain alcohol and 150 proof rum, in your checked luggage.

You may take up to five liters of alcohol with alcohol content between 24% and 70% per person as checked luggage if it’s packaged in a sealable bottle or flask.

Alcoholic beverages with less than 24% alcohol content are not subject to hazardous materials regulations.

I think as long as it follows those rules and it is sealed they won’t hassle you. If you’re worried call the airline anonymously beforehand and ask. Say the relatives you are visiting would like to send it to your parents as a gift and are you able to take it in your luggage despite only being 19 years old. You should be able to get the info you need. Be safe and good luck. Alexander & Lily’s Momma

I’ve done this several times as a minor and have not run into any problems. I usually check a handle, I’ve heard that you can check up to 1.75 L. timbrownati
