Can I put weed in luggage I am checking to fly from CA to PA?

I am going to be flying from California to Pennsylvania, and I would like to take some weed along. I don’t want to have to find someone to buy it from during my visit, and even if I did do that it’s so much better in California. Is there any way I could take some along in the luggage I am going to be checking (obviously not in my carry-on bags)? Do they search checked bags, and if so how thoroughly? What would the consequences be if they found it? Thank you.

Sure go ahead and when the dogs find it you can spend Christmas in their fine jail! Cave Creek

You will more than likely get caught. Your checked bags will show up any organic matter and the sniffer dogs will smell it . You will not only be arrested you will not only be fined big time you will have your holiday in jail. jennifer h

Not a great idea in this climate of super paranoia. Iffff you were going to do it the best way would be to keep it on your body in an airtight plastic container that is very small. (not in your shoes) You still run the risk of a patrolling dog or a random search in the security line. But think about this realistically. Do you want to risk being on the maximum check list for the rest of your life and possibly spend some serious jail time just to get a buzz? Trust me.. you don’t! and whereever you are going your friends will probably have stash. Don’t do it man. its just not the smart thing to do.
and its no fun at all when the dog comes over and sits down next to you… He’s not just being friendly! Traveler

Transportation of Cannabis across State Lines? Sounds like US Federal felony charges to me, especially if you get caught. Most likely to be detected in checked baggage, where sniffer dogs are most often used. PetroGuy

Are you joking? With even the slightest amount you’ll be caught either by the dogs trained to sniff out drugs or when they scan your luggage, you’ll then be fined or put in jail, so don’t do it’s not worth it :) Louise :)

They use high tech scanners on luggage which would pick up anything that your are trying to hide.

For the consequences it would be the same charges for if you had it outside the airport, but you would face the fact you wouldn’t be able to fly on that airline again probably and you might not be able to fly again ever depending on the situation, it also depends on how much your brought austin

umm it would be safer to have it on you then to put it in your checked bags, they have dog sniffers go through checked bags and who knows what they do with them you don’t see them for the whole trip, but I have never seen dogs in line sniffing your carry on luggage. It does go through x ray, I don’t know how clear those pics are though if you are carrying a big bag of random suff. Best bet would be to carry it on you. because they don’t Xray you. they just have you go through a metal detector. but you can’t have too much because it can’t be sticking out. They check your pockets and stuff, but you can put it somewhere else on you. savannahg2002
