Do I have to have the repcites for lost luggage?

In June last year I lost my case going from Australia to Hongkong then from Hongkong to England. British airways tell me I have to have the repcites for all of the things in the case to get the money back. Is this right? It sounds crazy because I bought some of that stuff like 3 years ago. Does anyone also know any good British airways phone numbers because all of the ones we have we never get through to. Thanks.

The reason they’re asking for your reciepts is that you are filing for compensation, and you are not actually telling them that you want your bag back. They most likely have already sold the bag’s contents, but are willing to compensate you for items you may have lost. You need to file lost baggage claims earlier than almost a year after losing your bag
