i’ve never flown before, but i’m planning a trip in feb. i’m a hockey player, and i want to take my skates, but i don’t know if they’ll allow me to pack them in my bag that will be put in the luggage compartment. so, do any of you figure skaters know what the rules are about that?

Yes, as long as they’re not stuffed with drugs, animals, or plants.

Well since they believe it’s possible to overmaster an entire air-crew with a toe-nail clipper…. I think you need to call the airport and ask :) Would be a shame if you had to leave your stuff behind!

  3. Jessica says:

They should let you as long as the bag is going in the under carriage or whatever.

I doubt it, I had a tweezers taken off me before, and the blades on skates would do a lot more damage!! Just pack them in ur checked in luggage.

Hi! I would suggest that you put your skates in your check-in luggage! That’s what I did, just in case the plane people wont allow you too… Better safe than sorry!

You can have ice skates in your checked-in baggage. You can’t have them in your hand luggage.

I would ring the airport and check because you don’t want to not be able to go or have them confiscated. Also they are metal and sharp and probably because of all the rules would be seen as a weapon lol. So I definitely think you should ring.:)

However if you were skating abroad and going into the olympics or something you would need to take your ice skates so maybe you can.:)

Also my friend had a pair of scissors taken from her and they are not as sharp as skate blades.

you can ship your skates or you can ask the airport

Of course you can have them in your checked baggage!
It takes weeks to break in new boots and professional skaters travel all over the world to competitions and shows with their skates. Until 9/11 they were even allowed as carry-on baggage.
Btw, you can have guns, switchblades and other weapons in your checked baggage, so skates are really no problem at all!

I just checked the TSA website yesterday (i have a trip planned in Nov. and wondered if i could bring my skates aboard too :D) I checked the TSA website, and under the Banned Items list, it lists that skates CANNOT be taken in you carry-on, but the can be in checked luggage.

I also read that all sharp objects (skate blades fit in that category) have to be covered at all times in checked luggage. the soaker blade covers do the job perfectly :D
    Have a nice trip
