How can I get to Brooklyn from Manhattan with a bunch of luggage?
Aldersmack asked:
I don’t think I can get a cab dispatched to my address for this. Or can I? If not, how do people get around in New York with luggage? My apt is on a quiet side street that sees very little traffic.

In NYC, yellow cabs are not dispatched. Legally they can not be; they can only pick up on the street or designated taxi stands. What you need is a car service; typically they’re using black town cars though sometimes they are in different colors and different types of cars. They can respond to telephone calls, but can not legally respond to street hails.
There are dozens of car services in Brooklyn; each neighborhood has a few. So without knowing where in Brooklyn where are it’s impossible to tell you who to call but if you go to Google and query ‘ car service’ you’ll find one.
Cost to get to Manhattan, of course, depends again on where in Brooklyn you are and where in Manhattan you’re going. When you call the service, you can ask them how much it will be. Jay
Depending on how much luggage you can take the subway. I’ve done it several times when going to the cruise ships on the west side from Grand Central. Just don’t try it during the morning or evening rush. Ronald
Just get a yellow cab, they go everywhere. Ellen
