Most airlines will only allow one piece of hand luggage per person on to the plane. If your suitcase is hand luggage size, then you will have to stick the laptop inside it.
One personal luggage piece such as a computer and one that must either fit in the overhead compartment or under the seat in front of you.
You are also generally allowed 2 pieces of checked luggage - left with the baggage handlers to be stowed in the lower section of the plane.
Once again as a general rule these are limited to a maximum of 50 pounds each and there may be size restrictions. The limits may vary for international flights depending on the airline. You must check with the specific airline you will be flying with.
