I am flying to Delhi from Manchester Airport, using alitalia (stop-off at Milan) - the luggage limit is 20kg and my luggage weighs 40kg! With a excess baggage charge of 11€ per kg, I obviously want to avoid paying excess baggage charges if at all possible - does anyone here have any suggestions on how to re-pack, how to avoid paying or any cheaper methods of getting my luggage to India? Thank you!

If you bought a business class ticket, you would have a greater baggage allowance.

Try package dark colored clothing, instead of light colored clothing. You can pack less dark clothing - it won’t get as dirty so you could wear the same thing a couple of times. Also pack things that could be washed in the sink, if necessary like cotton t-shirts.

Bring only essential items. Rest you will find it cheaper in India itself
