Is it best to take a camcorder in hand luggage or suitcase?
irec23 asked:
I’m heading to the States next week and I’m borrowing my dad’s expensive HD camcorder. I want to keep it as safe as possible, so is it better to keep it in my hand luggage or suitcase? Is security okay with it being in hand luggage etc?

There is no problem taking it in hand luggage.
It is not recommended that you put anything valuable in your check in luggage.
Luggage does go missing, get delayed or worse still, openned and things stolen.
Also the nickname for baggage handlers are throwers.
If you have anything that can fit in your pockets, that is the safest place for them. flingebunt
If you see the way baggage handlers in most airports throw suitcases around, stand on them and generally maltreat other people’s property, you would definitely keep your camcorder in your hand bag.
If you really need to put it in your checked-in luggage, make sure you pack it properly so that it can withstand abuse.
Also checked-in luggage keeps getting lost or sent to different airports by mistake. It’s a real pisser to arrive at a lovely vacation destination find that your camcorder’s gone somewhere else. This happened to me once on my vacation to Phuket. The airline could manage to track down and recover my lost suitcase eventually but unfortunately it was on the last day of my holiday (boo hoo!!). Hand luggage - definitely. Security people do not care about cameras. Thousands of people bring cameras every day.
It is too valuable to put into your checked baggage. Roger K
