I can’t predict how good of a chance it is, but it is definitely likely! I always worry about it too since I would hate to lose my clothes, shoes, etc. Just hope for the best and enjoy your trip! DNA
it depends on if your flight is direct or nonstop or are you making connections
and if you are making connections how long is the connection is less then a hour then
theres more chance of your bags missing the connecting flight
but if the flight is nonstop and you checked in at least 90 minutes Early then will less
chance of bags getting lost
but if you checked in late…….. travelmaster
50/50 chance of your luggage getting lost. I flew from Houston - Venice through Paris in December and my luggage was MIA for a week! Air France didn’t load it in Houston and when it arrived in Paris the next morning, the bag got held up and went missing for 13 days in total.
Is that going to happen to you? Probably not, but if it does, take these precautions ahead of time when packing. These tips will ensure that your bag is only delayed for a few hours or a day at the most. I ALWAYS do all of these items to my luggage, except for this past time when my trip came up at the last minute…
1.) Don’t wrap your luggage. I noticed in Europe, almost every person had a wrapped suitcase. Your bag doesn’t stand out!
2.) Put something distinctive on your handles of your bag that you will be able to spot as your bag ASAP. This will also help if the bag is lost, then you have something extra to describe it to the staff.
3.) Place 8½ x 11 sheets of paper in every pocket with your name, address, and phone number for them to contact if your bag is lost. Also, put your itinerary of your trip with addresses of where you are staying too. Sometimes the airline can then just forward your bag right away. Those little sticky destination tags they place on your handles do come off every now and then. If that happens, then the staff has no idea who the bag belongs to. They will have to open it up and search for anything that lets them know where to send it. So, you want to make their job easier!
4.) Business cards — If your suitcase has a business card holder on the back of it, place a card in there with all of your information as well
5.) Airline name tag — I know those little name tags the airline has at their counters look really fragile, but trust me, they are built to last! My destination tag had come off of my bag, but Air France sent my bag back to me in Texas 15 days later because the little tag that was balled up on the handle had all my info in it!
6.) Take a detailed inventory of your contents in your bag. Write it down to the color of your underwear! When giving the airline all the contents of your luggage, it will speed up the process if they know exactly what they are looking for. It will also be a huge savior if you have to do a reimbursement form should your bag become permanently lost.
7.) Finally, use space saver bags! They are huge Zip-loc bags you buy at the store to put your clothes in. Then you vacuum all the air out. It’ll keep your stuff nice and neat, but it’ll also protect all of your clothes in case your checked bag falls off the baggage cart and gets opened up. You wouldn’t believe how many times I’ve seen suitcases destroyed and that person’s stuff was all over the airport!
Hopefully your bag isn’t lost, but if it does find another spot to go to rather than with you; then these tips will ensure that your bag is reunited with your very soon! Tim
