Remove odor from the luggage?
payal p asked:
Hello,
I am going in the trip within a month. Few days back I went down in my basement to get our luggage to start packing. When I opened those, they had some bad odor, I think it is because my languages have been seating in my basement for last three years. I vacuumed those bags and sprayed ‘Febreze” and left those open for whole night. Next day the smell was gone so I packed some clothes. But now today I opened the bag again to pack more things and the odor came back. Now this time it is not just my bag, also all my cloths have the same odor. Some of the close I packed is dry cleaned only. I don’t know what to do. Please help me. How can I take that bad smell out from my languages and cloths and make sure it doesn’t come back.
Thank you.

I had the same problem a few years ago…I took a fabric softerner sheet and put in the pocket inside..worked wonders! Everything
smelled fresh and just washed(wrinkled, but washed!!)
put an ionizer in a big plastic bag with the luggage that will work even with gasolene
Put a couple chunks of charcoal (not the kind with the lighter fluid already in it) in an old athletic sock and stick it in the pockets until you’re ready to go. It’ll absorb the musty smell.
You luggage has become damp from the basement and micro-organisms are growing in it. You have to kill the micro-organisms. Place a shallow container - say a saucer with a little chlorine bleach in the bag and close the bag. Leave it several hours, over night, maybe longer, would be good and do not allow anyone to disturb it. Open carefully so as not to spill the bleach and remove the saucer.
Sprinkle talcum powder inside the baggage, close the bag and shake it about a little. Keep closed for a few hours and brush the talcum out. If the weather is sunny place the luggage open in the sun for a few hours. The fabric softener sheet and the charcoal in an old sock will work too.
Wash or dry clean the clothes.
.
Moth balls or cedar. Both of them will remove the smell and keep it from coming back. It sounds like your luggage picked up some dampness. Just put a few of either inside the luggage, all compartments and let sit over night in a nice dry area.
You’ve been given some good suggestions here for your immediate problem.
Before you put your suitcases away after your trip, try this:
What I do is put a bar of nice smelling soap into my suitcases before I put them away and that helps them to smell nicely for the next use. In your case I think you should include an absorbent cloth of some sort to absorb any further dampness but you’d better make sure that the place you store your suitcases in is DRY and not damp.
Use this stuff called “Approach” it’s the best. I used it on my luggage last year when I had to go overseas. I travel about once a decade so I had that musty smell too.
Make sure you spray every last inch, inside and out. It’ll kill any mold and get rid of the musty smell. It’ll also get the smell out of your clothes, just make sure you spray heavily and spray everywhere.
It’s a miracle product! Highly recommend it!
Good luck!
