Can you pack hairspray into check in luggage?

My In laws are travelling with BMI Baby next week and have been told that they can’t pack hairsprays etc into the check in luggage. i know they can’t pack it into hand luggage but i always thought aerosols were ok in check in bags. Does any one know?
