Simplystunning, when I say suitcase I mean baggage destined to the bagagge compartment. I know it is danger, I am just not sure that not allowing hand luggage is enough protection. Why don’t you try answering the questions instead of making comments?

I am flying back from San Francisco into Chicago with United then onto UK with BMI. How does the luggage thing work then?Will I have to collect at Chicago or will it be booked through? Why do people take so much luggage with them on flights?

Well George, I travel long haul between UK and Japan several times a year. I have to take clothes and stuff for a few months at a time and I never take more than one small suitcase. Just not necessary.
My question is mostly referring to those going on a short haul 2 weeks in the Med holiday.
