Taking food in airline checked in luggage?
BlueTuna asked:
I’m travelling abroad, and was wondering if there are any restrictions on carrying food in your checked in luggage? I will be carrying some Chocolate/candy and cookies. What are the restrictions regarding different types of food on board airlines, and do certain rules apply depending on the country you are travelling too? I realise liquids are still an issue, but I’m not sure about other types?

Liquids in your checked luggage are fine (be sure to put the bottles/containers in a couple of layers of plastic bags in case they leak!). Packaged food would be perfectly fine on domestic flights.
There are some countries which do restrict the kind or perhaps amount of food that can be imported. If you let us know where you will be landing, some people on Y!A may have specific knowledge of the issues for that country.
The restrictions are more often on fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry and so on. Canned or packaged stuff is less of a problem. Roger K
There are basically two questions here, what is allowed under security regulations and what is allowed into other countries. Speaking only of food stuffs in general most of them can be placed in your checked luggage without any problems. Certainly the ones you have indicated in your question are allowed under current regulations if placed in your checked luggage. The restrictions relating to bringing liquids, gels, and pastes relate to those items brought in carry on luggage, they do not apply to checked luggage.
Any food brought into another country is subject to the rules and regulations of the individual country and they do change depending on your destination. In general though any raw food items are prohibited which includes the following:
fruit
vegetables
meat
plant products
In addition items such as nuts may be restricted or prohibited depending on the individual country.
In general any foods that are processed which includes cooked or canned are allowed to be brought into most countries but there is no hard and fast rule that can be applied. Jeff H
