I am going to fly this summer and am looking for some unique ways to identify my luggage when I claim it. And also so that no one else has the guts to take a bag that has THAT on it! They might get made! so what are some good ideas?

Stick big letters on it that say “Handle carefully, bomb inside’ Hoppelemine

You could wrap neon electrical tape around part of it or tie neon surveying ribbon on it (both available at hardware/home improvement stores). You could also buy luggage straps that can be wrapped around the luggage, making it both more secure and more visible. Some are bright colors, some can be personalized, etc. Here is a link for some, but you can probably find them cheaper elsewhere. Nat

I use a brightly colored strap with buckle closures. This does 2 things: 1) makes it easy to see and 2) prevents anyone from opening it to have a quick rifle thru your stuff but is still accessible to security personnel if they need to open it. I also use bright ribbons tied around the handle. To secure the zippers which can’t be locked, I use either a paperclip - easy to remove but prevents quick entry, or an old key chain. Alternatively, buy hideously brightly colored luggage. I’ve seen that too & always think “who would buy that”! iamjoanna

If you’re the creative type, you can use fabric paint to create a unique design on the bag, or even stencil a name or phrase like “NOT YOURS” in big letters. I don’t recommend tying tags or ribbons onto the bag handles, since baggage handling systems tend to tear them off. Fixer

If it is old luggage, you could spray paint it graffiti-style in several colors.
Put large bumper stickers on each side
Buy brilliantly colored luggage to begin with.
Paint a large evil-eye symbol on each side, nothing to do with luck but very powerful psychology as proven with experiments.
Colored duct-tape crosses on each side. Patti

I’m leaning toward the fabric paint/spray paint.

Don’t write “bomb inside”, cause, at BEST that insures that the security people will rifle through your things, and possibly put it behind on connections, but at worst, the security people will just take it to bomb security and blow it up for you.

Why not put something really ugly like a rubber tarantula on the handle…people will think twice before they realize it’s fake. By then, it will have passed them. :)

I always just tie a ribbon on the handle…or a piece of yarn. So far, baggage handling hasn’t torn that off, but the security guy knows best.

And, I must say, since almost everyone has the same, generic looking luggage, you really want SOMETHING! patriot
