What are the chances of my luggage getting lost?
Ethan asked:
This summer I am going to be going to Thailand but I wanted to also visit Beijing on the way back. As a result, I am going to be flying from the US to Seoul then to Beijing and then to Bangkok. The US to Beijing part of the trip will be on Asiana Airlines and the Beijing to Bangkok part will be on Air China. I was wondering if my luggage might get lost since I will be flying two different airlines and stopping in two different countries before finally getting to my destination.
I will be checking in my luggage directly to Bangkok here from the US.

i’m pretty sure you’ll have to claim your bags once you stop in Beijing because you’re switching airlines. also they usually make you pick up your bags if you’re on a long layover (greater than 8 hours). Check with the airline about the picking up and rechecking of your bags to be sure though. LB
You probably have a 1-2% chance of losing your luggage. Changing airlines won’t significantly increase the chances of your luggage getting lost, luggage handling is all bar coded and computerized these days. I’ve traveled to Asia and back many times, with connecting flights and airline changes and have never lost a bag or had them delayed, but it can happen. I wouldn’t worry about it. Gerald J
