What are the dimensions of the biggest object you can carry onto an airplane as hand luggage?
Logic / Reason / Evidence asked:
Is there a weight restriction? Do different airlines have different rules? I want to buy a telescope which is small enough to take on a flight - I wouldn’t trust it to the luggage handlers.

It must be under 50 LB. Speaking by expirience we once took my little cuz on as a carry on (he ways 40Lb) Rebecca
This web page has the carry-on maximum sizes for various airlines: RoofingPrincess
depending on the size of the box the telescope is in. Remember, it must fit in the overhead compartment or under your seat. Most airlines rules are approximately 45 linear inches(h+L+W). If it is too big, they can take it and put it into the baggage compartment.
My opinion is that the logical dimensions of a telescope will prohibit you from bringing it on as carry on. It would be too long to fit under your seat and in the overhead compartment. AJ
Most domestic airlines I’ve looked up say less than 40lbs and 45 linear inches. Linear inches are all sides of your luggage (or box or whatever) added up. Width + height + depth. As long as those add up to 45″ or less you’re good. Michelle
