I’m flying to jamaica over spring break from atlanta, how many carry-ons can i have; and what are the size limits for those bags? Also does a purse count as a carry on?

some airlines are more lax than others but the rules are one carry on bag something like 21 x 12 X 10 ish and one other bag like a computer bag or purse…when they let people abuse the rules it becomes impossible to find overhead space

A purse does not classify as a carry on, it is a personal item. You can bring one carry on and one personal item. The carry on size restrictions should be provided to you on your itinerary or ticket information as it is usually specific to the airline.

That being said, remember that there are now new rules about liquids in your purse and carry on. There’s a lot that you cannot bring. You have to follow the 3 ounce-1 quart-1 bag rule (I’ve attached a site with the information.)

You can only have one carry-on. I’m not sure what the exact measurements are- the size of a small suitcase. Check your airlines website, they will tell you the exact size. A purse is considered a personal bag, and you are allowed one. I usually put my purse inside a bigger bag and take snacks and magazines too.

…. I am not really sure about the amount, but depends how bug your purse is… for sure two, if not more. purse can go in other big bag. :)

Each person is allowed one carry-on and one personal item. A personal item is considered to be one of a laptop, purse, camera or a small back pack type bag (some people bring a soft sided lunch bag). Your carry-on is limited by size and this varies from airline to airline. Some use the total measurement (H + W + D) while others give a maximum size (example: 21″ x 6″ x 15″). The size does change depending on the airline so the best way to find out is to check the airline’s website.

I have also been told by airline personnel that they are becoming stricter in enforcing the maximum size regulations. As many airlines have limited or eliminated the number of free checked bags they are trying to make sure that travellers do not attempt to use them as a carry-on. There are measurement devices at each check area as well as at the gate and they do make passengers check their carry-on bags with them. It is up to the staff at the check-in counter or gate to make this decision.
