Make it hard for them to lose it in the first place.

When I am traveling and MUST use checked baggage… which is very seldom… I put a piece of masking tape on the top of the baggage right under the handle, showing the ROUTE the baggage will take…
    LAX—>A.A. 123 DIRECT—>ORD BAA 456 DIRECT MIA. for example.

I make sure I have a NAME TAG on the handle… a GOOD ONE… leather is best, with my name, address and phone number on it… THEN I also have INSIDE the luggage my entire name, address and ITINERARY with all known phone numbers. this is in ADDITON to the baggage claim label furnished by the airline(s)

Finally, I use a piece of masking or painters tape to put a big “X” on each side of the luggage so I can easily identify it when it comes off the carousel OR so I can tell the baggage people what to look for

In all the years and in all the miles I have flown over the past 50 years I have NEVER LOST A PIECE OF LUGGAGE…
