What is the longest you luggage has been lost?
Gwendolyn asked:
As many of you know I went out of town (on business) and guess what? They lost my luggage!!! I was irrate. I went to attend and speak at a conference and here I am with nothing but a sweatsuit to wear. I have since calmed down but once I realized that they only want to reimburse me $25.00 my level of irritation began to rise again. Any suggestions? What can I do to be reimburesed for the clothes that I HAD to buy.

lol forgot what reimburesed means. Isnt it getting money back. Well you can hope to find it on the street and be mean and grumpy to everyone because of that accident,
Or try to suceed in life since you have a business suit and stuff. But personally the first one works better for me lol KungFuPanda
Me and my moms luggage got last 2 years ago in june.
Never got it back. It wasnt our choice to check it, the overheads were fll so we had to hand the bags over to the stewardesses.
We had a connection from chicago to wisconsin. When we got to wisconsin our bags didnt.
I had like all my stuff in there digital camera, my whole wardrobe, ipod, my mom had nice suits in hers.
Ww got 500 dollars for reimbursmenst Lauren
I’ve travelled a lot for work, over the years and I’ve only had my luggage get “lost” twice (both on vacations, ironically, and both on the return trip, luckily). The first time, it made the next flight (2 hours), so we waited at the airport. The second time they dropped it off at my house the next day.
There are laws that dictate how much the airline has to re-imburse you, and the amounts are pretty small. If you are a frequent flyer and have some status (gold, silver, platinum), then I’d suggest calling the number on your card and trying to go through them. I find airlines will bend over backwards for platinum customers (I had a flight cancelled in Brazil and was told I’d have to wait 4 days before they could fly me out. I mentioned my platinum status, and they bought me a ticket on another airline that day!)
Getting mad with the airline generally doesn’t help. You just give them an excuse to not care about you (”he was too irrate to deal with…”). Instead, go with the hurt or disappointed. “I booked your airline, because of it’s reputation…”, “you put me in a very ackward position…”, “isn’t the system computerized to prevent this from happening…” And when they answer “yes” to the computerized one, then try “then doesn’t that mean you knew it wouldn’t make the flight? Should I have been given the option of carrying it on or a ‘gate-to-gate’ check?” Make them feel like they ‘wronged’ you. Also, try asking for something that isn’t $s. “I had to spend $$$ to replace items, could you give me a flight credit or free ticket to cover my loses?” It’s probably easier for them to give you that or frequent flyer miles, than cash. corslets
I have over a million miles and have only had luggage lost a handful of times fortunately. The longest it’s been “lost” is a few hours, but I’ve had it take up to a day and a half to get to my location and be delivered to me. Don’t hold your breath waiting for the airline to reimburse you for clothes for the day. My company will reimburse something like that within reason, but I always have something in a carry on just in case.. conley39
I recently went to Philadelphia for a weekend trip. I arrived at midnight on a Friday (an hour late due to NWA’s delays) and they had lost my luggage. When I called them Saturday at noon, they said my bag was in Philly, but they couldn’t tell me when it would arrive to me. Once they knew, they’d call and it would be to me within 8 hours!! What a time window! They never did call, and my bag didn’t arrive until 6pm that night. I left the next day at 2pm (and due to more delays, missed a connecting flight and ended up being the airport for 9 hours for a 2 hour long flight…but I digress…). So basically, I spent until 6pm of the only full day of my trip waiting around my hotel for my bag to arrive.
I passed my time by reading up on what I would get reimbursed for. The policies depend on the airline you chose, but there should be information on their website. In the link below, I’ve provided the Delayed Luggage info from Northwest. Basically, they’re supposed to provide you with toiletries, like toothpaste (on my trip, they didn’t even offer). Anything you had to buy, if you kept the receipt, they should reimburse you for within reason.
For example, Northwest says this:
Expenses: Customers may also request reimbursement for additional personal items (i.e., clothing and toiletries) purchased as a result of the delay by presenting receipts at the Luggage Service office at the airport. Reimbursement is limited to $50.00 for the first 24 hours, and $25.00 per each additional day of delay, up to $150.00 per ticketed passenger. Northwest’s contract of carriage excludes liability for consequential damages such as expenses for car rentals, phone calls, hotel stays or meals.
Anyway, I’m sorry you had to go through that and I definitely feel your pain! Hopefully you’ll have better luck than I did. If you email customer service or call them, you might be able to get a credit of some sort for your trouble. cullar
