Why backpack leafblowers need to be gaspowered?
achabacha asked:
Is it possible to make a eletric backpack leafblower? What is the use of the backpack. I can only find gas powered backpack leafblowers. Anyone know why?

They are made to be used by people that are doing a lot of blowing. Thats why they are backpacks….to make them easier to carry vs. a hand held one. So if you are going to be out blowing a bunch of crap around you need to be able to move around to do it…..So you don’t want to be tied to the house with a cord. Hex92
To store electricity, you will either need a battery, which would be very heavy and would eventually need to be replaced, or a cord, which would tether you to the outlet.
Gas is used because it stores a LOT of energy in a small portable package. Rivergirl100
DeWalt do a Large battery powered Leaf Blower. It has a re-chargeable battery and is sold with at least one spare. norkluvva
The backpack blowers are usually bigger and more powerful, and generally considered for commercial use only. A battery large enough to give a useful amount of time would be too big to be practical.
Most electric blowers are rather small and handheld because they don’t have the guts a gas model will have and have to be plugged in. The electric motor is smaller and more compact than most gas models and that is in fact the selling point for most of them. Matt H
There is no reason why they could not be electric. Of course, if you want one that is battery powered, the battery would have to be quite large and consequently, heavy. The Outcast
