With the amount of carry on luggage, it seems it is more convenient for everyone if you check your luggage. Why is it then so costly, if it is the wise decision?

The reason there is so much carry on is because of the charges for checked baggage. The airlines are intent on ripping you off for every dollar they can. stan l

Because it is a hidden cost they are officially allowed.
They lowered the price of the basic ticket, which looks better in the price comparison sites and ads, and still charge you the higher amount as you almost certainly have to check some luggage.

There are rules for what they have to show in the ads, and many costs they used to ignore, like tax, they have to show now. Willeke
